Zettlr's auto-suggest feature for inserting citekeys is extremely helpful. That said, there may be times when you want to cut and paste a citekey directly from your reference manager. If you're using Zotero with the BetterBibTeX plugin, the plugin comes with features for streamlining this process, which require a one-time setup. In Zotero, go to the `Settings` menu and select the `Better BibTex` from the sidebar to bring up the plugin settings. Scroll to the section labeled `Quick-Copy` and choose `Pandoc citation` from the `Quick-Copy format` menu. Next, select `Export` from the `Settings` sidebar. From the dropdown menu labeled `Item Format`, select the option labeled `Better BibTeX Citation Key Quick Copy`. This completes the necessary setup.

Going forward, you can select one, or multiple, items in Zotero and drag them onto the Zettlr editor pane to insert citations. If you prefer to cut and paste citekeys, you can do so by selecting an entry in Zotero and using the key combo <kbd>Cmd/Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd><kbd>C</kbd> to copy the citekey to the clipboard.
