I have searched the existing issues, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate report.

The bug

On the mobile app (using the new timeline), when you flick up to show the details-pane, info about aperture is completely missing on fixed lens cameras (for example Fuji x100).

See attached screenshot from my iPhone using the new timeline.

On system cameras the aperture is showing because there is a "Lens field" showing all the details about which lens used -including chosen aperture.

On the Web app this is not an issue, nor was it an issue with the old timeline.

Proposed change:
Aperture info should be visible before the shutterspeed - on the same field where the camera-info is.
And - there may also be an additional field for the lens used (even if it is an fixed camera)

Aperture, shutter and ISO used are essential values and should be visible in the same field.
Now - when flicking up to show the details-pane on an image taken with a system-camera you have to scroll/move down once more to show info about the aperture used. That is unfortunate. This info should only require a single flick. And - it makes more sense to have aperture, shutterspeed and ISO used on the same field anyway as I have mentioned.

Does it show on the web? If not, then there is no lens info in the EXIF data of the file

Yes. It shows on the web, see attached screenshot.

This is only a bug on the mobile app - if the new timeline is being used.

The image I used does have perfectly normal EXIF data. I also have lots of images taken with the (great) Ricoh GRII fixed lens camera and it’s the same issue there as well.

This should be an easy fix for someone with knowledge. All EXIF/image data (aperture,shutter, iso, camera and lens model) fields just need to be structured a little bit different. That’s all 🙂

I'm not sure why @bo0tzz converted this issue into a discussion? In my point of view this is clearly a bug.
A bug that is only visible when the new timeline is being used.

...and for us that takes photographs (with fixed lens cameras) this is not a small bug either. The really important EXIF-data is NOT complete :-)

This is still an ongoing issue in the newest version, v2.6.1.
It would be a good time to fix this issue now, before the next major release will remove support for the old timeline!

The bug is easily reproducible.

@headtr1ck Thanks for commenting, but I'm not so sure that your example shows that the bug is not visible on the Android version of the mobile app. To me it seems that your Pixel phone adds the used camera lens as an "lens exif data" - and then it will show up in the mobile up as a "separate lens", same as a removable lens on a system-camera.

The problem is; several fixed lens cameras does not write exif data in the "Used lens" field when taking pictures (and that is the correct thing to do in my point of view), they only specify the camera manufacturer and modelname, and the aperture, shutterspeed and ISO used.

@menkromsen I used to be able to reproduce this, I can't anymore on v2.6.1 on Pixel 6. Very strange!
