In cases where the caption isn't super long, and the figure isn't full-width, the caption offset makes it totally separated from the figure. That leads to some confusing behavior like this:

Here's a proposal for intended behavior we can shoot for:

Intended behavior

• Captions should have the same width as the largest image in a figure.
• They should be left-aligned to the edge of the largest image in a figure.
• This is the case regardless of the position, alignment, or width of the figure.
