Audiobook Tagging and Playback

Greetings Music Assistant Community.

Setup:
I am having an issue with playing audiobooks. I have gathered all the files for an audiobooks in flac format and tagged them using picard and added a folder with the files using the local storage provider.

Issue:
The audiobook is structured in multiple discs with a few tracks each. When I go to play track 5 of disc 3 it starts to play track 5 of disc 1. It seems to always take the track number and play the corresponding disc 1 track. I can scroll through the timeline when I open up the active player popover though which tells me that somewhere it knows how all the chapters should fit together.

I've tried adding subfolders as (optionally) specified in the documentation (Disc 1, Disc 2 ...) but the outcome is the same. Is there something I am missing in the tagging step? Or have I found a bug?

You should just be selecting the audiobook from the audiobook view and it will pick up from where you left off. Are you trying to do this from the browse view?

I think I have a fix for this. Can you make available track 1 disc 1 and track 1 disc 2 somehow so I can download it and test the fix.

Actually I have used a multi disc music album to test this. The difference you will see is all tracks will be number sequentially. That is, the numbers will not restart at 1 when the next disc is read. So in the screenshot above instead of seeing 1-8 and 1-3 you will see 1-11

Using your tracks works locally for me. This fix will roll out to you in a couple of weeks unless you are using he nightly or beta when it will be already available.You will probably have to remove the audiobook from the library and then let it get imported again

@OzGav I am still seeing this issue on version 2.9.0.dev2026033107, I assume the fix would be included here?

I have several audiobooks that are ripped from my audiobook-CDs. Some of them have extensive tags from MusicBrainz/Picard, others I have manually added tags. All of them have issues with playback/ordering.

One example I have with tags from MusicBrainz, where disc 1 has 3 tracks and disc 2 has 24 tracks:

• Incorrect sort order (f.ex items from Disc 2 is displayed first)
• Incorrect playback;
  • Playing track 1,2 or 3 of disc 1 or 2 will play the same segments from disc 1.
    • Track 2 and 3 does not start at the correct timestamp (i.e it starts playing somewhere in the middle of track 2/3, not at the beginning). Track 1 correctly starts at the beginning, but both disc 1 and 2 plays the segment from disc 1.
  • This also means its not possible to play track 1,2,3 on disc 2 as it will always play segments from disc 1.

This audiobook (and several of my others) are audiobooks for kids, and often there are several separate short stories - so playing it from start-to-finish doesnt always make sense. In this example, all tracks on CD 1 are separate stories. All tracks on CD 2 are one story (so the tracks are considered chapters), this is also why all track titles are the same.

I removed several tracks from the screenshot to fit it all, but all are listed.

Did you try removing these books from the library and then rescanning them in?

Yes, I have tried:

• Remove the local files [audiobook] source provider and re-add it
• Reset library database (Settings -> System -> Music -> Show advanced settings)

Neither attempt resolved the issue.

I have also added more books after this, and one of them (Tonje Glimmerdal) has 5 CDs. These are somehow registered as separate books. The first entry contains cds 1-3, the second and third entry is cd 4 and 5.
