Hi @MorozovMisha, Congratulations on getting approved for the GitHub Student Developer Pack! This is a very common issue — the good news is that it's almost always fixable. Why This HappensGetting approved for the GitHub Student Developer Pack does NOT automatically activate GitHub Copilot. You have to claim Copilot separately as an additional step. Solution 1: Manually Claim Copilot (Most Likely Fix)Even though you got an approval email, you need to explicitly add Copilot to your account:
After claiming: Wait 5-10 minutes, then restart VS Code completely and sign back into Copilot. Solution 2: Remove Existing Copilot Trial/SubscriptionIf you previously started a Copilot free trial, it can block the student plan from applying. What to do:
Solution 3: Wait for Sync (24-48 Hours)GitHub Education systems can take up to 48 hours to fully sync your benefits across all services. What to do:
Solution 4: Check Your RegionGitHub Copilot Student has some regional restrictions. If you're in a restricted country, the benefit may not activate even if approved. Quick check: Go to Settings → Billing and plans → GitHub Copilot — if you see an error about region, that's the issue. If this is the case: You may need to use a VPN or contact GitHub Support directly. Solution 5: Contact GitHub Support (If Nothing Works)If you've tried all the above and still have the issue:
Support usually responds within 2-3 business days. Summary: Try in This Order
Important NoteYou mentioned you already checked your student verification and it shows as verified — that's good! The issue is specifically that Copilot needs to be claimed separately from the main Student Pack. Most students who follow Solution 1 get it working immediately. Try that first and let me know if it works! Good luck, and congratulations again on getting the Student Pack! |

Benefit Activation/Waiting
Hi everyone,
I recently applied for and was approved for the GitHub Copilot Student plan through GitHub Education. I received the confirmation stating that the benefit was successfully added to my account.
However, I'm experiencing an issue where:
Copilot does not appear as available in my IDE (VS Code)
In my account settings under "Usage", it still shows the "Free" plan instead of the Copilot Student plan
I don't see Copilot listed in my active subscriptions or benefits
I've tried:
Could you please help me understand why the Copilot Student benefit isn't reflecting in my account despite the approval, and assist with resolving this?
