Possible ways to handle GitHub account restriction & recover dataIf your GitHub account is restricted and you're not getting a response from support, here are the practical steps you can try: 1. Check the exact restriction reasonGitHub usually sends an email explaining:
Make sure to read that carefully because recovery depends on the reason. 2. Contact GitHub Support properlyUse the official support form: https://support.github.com/contact
📌 Tip: Keep it short and professional — long messages often get ignored. 3. Follow up (important)If no reply:
4. Data recovery possibilitiesIf account is temporarily restricted:
If account is suspended:
If fully disabled:
5. GitHub Actions related issuesIf restriction is due to Actions:
📌 Mention clearly in support ticket if your workflows are legitimate. 6. Prevent this in future
Final noteUnfortunately, if GitHub Support doesn’t respond, there is no alternative recovery method. If anyone has successfully recovered access in a similar situation, sharing your experience would really help. |

Thanks for the detailed answer, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, my situation is a bit different and more blocking:
I did try reaching out to GitHub Support on X (Twitter), but no success so far. At this point, posting here is honestly my last attempt. I feel a bit stuck in a dead end, with no real way to understand or fix the issue. What’s frustrating is that I genuinely did not do anything intentionally wrong, and I have no visibility on what triggered this. If anyone has managed to break out of this kind of situation or reach an actual human review, I would really appreciate any advice. |

Even if you didn’t use GitHub Actions yourself, giving access to tools like Claude Code can create things in the background, use APIs automatically, and run actions without your knowledge. Reasons your tickets are closingThis is how GitHub support works:
-You're not being ignored, you're just stuck in their system. What you should do:-
Write a New Message. Keep it short and clear. Topic: The message: Say you didn't know you used GitHub Actions 👉 Keep it simple. Don’t make a big story.
Go to: This can sometimes be better than regular tickets. |

Hi all, Quick update: this has now been handled and resolved after getting a proper human review from GitHub Support. In short, the issue was caused by suspicious automated activity on my account (likely linked to a compromised token), which triggered GitHub’s security systems and led to the suspension. Access has now been restored, and I’ve cleaned up the account (removed unknown repositories, revoked tokens, reviewed access and workflows). Thanks a lot for all the insights and suggestions here, they definitely helped me move in the right direction 👍 |

Hi @smartcrypto0, The original author later confirmed that their case was ultimately resolved after GitHub performed a manual review and determined the account had likely been affected by suspicious automated activity (potentially from a compromised token). Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a special "human support" contact method. From the cases I've seen, the most important factors are:
If you still have access to any support email thread, reply directly to it with any additional security-related information. If you can submit a new appeal, include:
Keep in mind that community members cannot see suspension details, and only GitHub Support can review the underlying enforcement decision. The encouraging part is that the author of this discussion was eventually reinstated after a manual review, so it is possible for these cases to be reconsidered when additional context is provided. |

Hi,
I’m currently facing an issue with my GitHub account (username: lemagus) which has been suspended due to an alleged violation related to GitHub Actions.
The problem is not only the restriction itself, but the fact that I cannot get a proper response from support:
From my side:
At this point, I’m mainly trying to:
This is critical for me as these repositories contain active client projects and ongoing work.
Has anyone experienced something similar or knows how to escalate this properly to get a human review?
Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.
