Copilot in GitHub
Body
I am considering publishing this story because recent GitHub Copilot changes have destroyed its utility.
As a student with the GitHub Education pack, the rapid decline over the last three months is staggering.
Three months ago
We had 300 "premium credits" monthly. It was perfect. I used it daily, faced zero rate limits, and never hit the ceiling.
A month later
GitHub implemented massive rate limits across all tiers. However, the credits still held value. A 30-minute Agent session only used about 5 premium requests. I barely made a dent in my allowance.
The real downfall happened recently. GitHub introduced "AI Credits," slashing our monthly allowance to 200. Worse, they severely devalued each credit.
I ran the exact same 30-minute Agent session. Under the new system, it burned 50 AI credits instead of 5—instantly wiping out a quarter of my entire monthly allowance.
By shrinking credit amounts and inflating the cost per prompt, GitHub destroyed Copilot. What was an indispensable daily companion is now a heavily restricted tool users must constantly ration.
