Camera view is misaligned

The camera view while actively taking a picture is stretched vertically - the bottom of the image is off the bottom of the screen I think. Once I take the picture it snaps to showing the whole image and is no longer stretched.

Made some minor improvements to activity/view but the API for the camera preview is difficult to work with and I couldn't manage to get the preview to precisely match the picture taken.
