From what I can tell what works with default settings for FTV 2015 is:

• Back button
• Home Button
• Play Button gets indicated if sth. is playing
• Sending Text without space

Not working:

• Fast Forward and Rewind, incl. Play / Pause
• Cursor and Choose Button
• Send Text including a Space

A Mode which works with everything, including the above is the "Strong" mode!

Interesting... so maybe event3 wasn't the best choice here. I created the Device Inputs Chart based on the data that you had sent me. These charts always include an entry for Amazon Fire TV Remote but the data you sent me did not have any data for that, and I think I know why.

There is an unfortunate behavior with the way Amazon Fire products listen for commands. When the device is powered off or restarted, they often stop listening for commands on their "remote control" (event number) input. I have researched this issue and requested help from the community on this topic, but so far there doesn't seem to be any way around it. Since this is a common thing, the Firemote FAQ has a section called "Why Don't Any of the Buttons on the Firemote Work At All?" which explains that pressing any button on the physical remote control that came with your device will re-open the communication channel that the Firemote card needs to use.

This is what I would like you to try: When your FireTV 2nd Gen 2015 device is powered on, press any of the navigation keys on your physical remote control. Make sure that your physical remote control is actually working as expected. Next, in your Home Assistant Firemote card, set your Compatibility Mode option to event6 to see if that works better.

I usually don't use the Amazon Remote. I use CEC instead and the Remote of my TV.

For testing purposes- I did connect the Amazon Remote. Cylcled through the events and found out that event6 works without issues.

Just to be sure I did the same test whith the Amazon Remote disconnected and yes, event6 stopped working. I needed to switch to strong mode again.(which is indeed slower than event6 - when it works)

Thank you for that additional testing. I think what I need to do is set the default for this device to event6 so that it works for anyone else using this same device.

Unfortunately in your case, you might have to set your override to strong and deal with the slow response time. I wish that wasn't the case which is why I've invested so much time in trying to force a Fire device to reconnect with its remote, but I have yet to be successful. You could also use event6 (or default after I release the next official Firemote update) and take your chances, that's completely up to you.

I'll leave this open until I push out the next official Firemote release.

Ok, I guess I will try to completly switch to "cec"-control with your integration.

I have hdmi_cec: enabled and working in my home assistant setup.
From what have I seen in the docs I will need some button overwrites:
https://github.com/PRProd/HA-Firemote#button-overrides and scripts to send the command to the device.

I just need to figure out what CEC commands are being send for up/down/left/right and so on...
