This is really needed for licensing reasons - we don't want to ship our assets as-is, and so it would be better to package them into an archive.
Of course it's also better for Windows which is notoriously slow at reading individual files.
There are various options and so we just need to pick one or write one of our own.
(it would be great to come up with one that supports modding!)
