Type Error when starting Node-Red server

Hello,

I am having an error when I start Node-Red Server:
the MC READ node gives this msg:
msg : error
"TypeError: util.log is not a function"

Fresh install.

Can you help me?

Hi, there will be more information than what you have posted. Can you copy and paste the full error including the stack trace?
Also please tell me what version of node.js, node red, MC protocol node you have installed.

Hello!

Those are the software versions:
Node-RED version: v4.0.8
Node.js version: v23.4.0
Linux 6.6.74-1-MANJARO x64 LE

Node-red was installed from AUR

I tried node-red-contrib-mcprotocol version 1.2.1 and node-red-contrib-mcprotocol-ind 1.7.0. I guess the latest ones.

I turned logging in settings.js to trace but still only getting this message from MC Read:
[error] [MC Read:06477b32d4566294] TypeError: util.log is not a function

How can I get more informatiion? Thanks

Tried Node-red 3.1.0 from snap and there is no more error. But I don't have a FX5U with me to test. But on version 4.0.8 after turning on the server or implementing changes the error would come up.

We saw this same issue after updating Node.js.

TypeError: util.log is not a function

Node-RED: 4.0.9
Node: v23.7.0
node-red-contrib-mcprotocol: 1.2.1

util.log has been deprecated for quite awhile (v6.0.0) and is now removed as of Node 23

Hi @nateevans

Thanks for letting me know this occurred on node v23. It gives me somewhere to dig.

In the meantime, Node-RED is neither tested against nor supported for odd numbered versions of nodejs. Since the current LTS is v22, please use v22 (where this will not be an issue)

Note, before you move to LTS, could I trouble you to capture the stack trace and post it as text in a reply? It will help with getting this resolved more quickly.
