Toggle italic hotkey stops working

I use the default hotkey CTRL+I to toggle italic. If I accidentaly press CTRL+O and press cancel to get back the hotkey CTRL+I hotkey doesn't work anymore no matter what the active field is.

I was gonna look into this but I can't reproduce on macOS and have no access to any other platform at the moment.

Well, I'm running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit version 25H2 build 26200.8655 (which is the latest Microsoft maintenance level) with SE 5 RC 3 so I guess I can try this. I opened a subtitle file, picked a random subtitle, didn't change anything, & clicked Ctrl+o. Of course, that opened the file selection dialog for opening another subtitle file. I hit Esc to dismiss it. Then I hit Ctrl+i & the current subtitle dutifully got surrounded by the expected <i></i> tags. I moved down a few subtitles & tried Ctrl+o again. This time I got the guard dialog about wanting to save my changes. I canceled that away & did Ctrl+i on this second subtitle. It also got the <i></i> tags. So it seems to be working fine for me.

But there was one thing that didn't work properly. The guard dialog for saving changes came up behind the Audio visualizer. It was allegedly in foreground, as indicated by the color of the title bar of the dialog, but it was obscured by the floating Audio visualizer. I suppose I haven't revealed the relevant detail that I run SE with the controls undocked. At least Alt+Tab successfully brings the guard dialog properly into foreground. That actually doesn't change what has focus. The guard dialog had focus all along. It just brings it on top of the floating Audio visualizer.

This anomaly with the guard dialog hiding behind the floating Audio visualizer is something that other windows also do. I know that both the Settings & the Shortcut dialogs also open in focus but behind the floating Audio visualizer. In their cases, Alt+Tab also brings them properly on top. But they really ought to open on top. I suspect there's other subordinate dialog windows that do the same thing but those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head at the moment.

For the file selection dialog that I got at the beginning of my test sequence, I can't say whether it was behind the floating Audio visualizer. I happen to have things positioned on my screen so the file selection dialog is above the Audio visualizer so it doesn't overlap. Maybe if I positioned it differently, it would come up behind the Audio visualizer as well. I'll leave that exercise for others to investigate.

It just occurred to me that the type of subtitle file might be a factor. I ran my test on a VTT. Maybe SRT or ASSA or something else might act different. Maybe even the type of video file associated with the subtitles might be a factor. My test used an MP4.

One other thing. If I have the Settings dialog properly on top & I hit the Apply button, the Settings dialog remains in focus as the foreground window, but it jumps behind the Audio visualizer again. The Apply button is kind of a special case, unique to Settings, right?
