@bethdingley if you're able to help with tagging people to ask about the questions above, that would be great

Thank Beth (Alan doesn't have GitHub).
I think the explanation as is now is incorrect - sorry if this was my doing, as it probably was. And thank you for catching this!
It should say

"by increasing stratospheric sulfur forcing at whatever level is required to achieve stable temperatures."

Thanks @dan-visioni!

Two other questions:

  • do you only want 50 years of simulations as a minimum? (so people could end in 2085, rather than being asked to go all the way to 2100 or longer)
  • in the output files, should the experiment name be G7-1p5K-SAI or something else? (Note, you can't have G7-1.5K-SAI as we can't put . in the experiment name in the file because it causes lots of things to break)

"activity_id": [
"geomip"
"description": "Stablisation of global-mean temperature at 1.5C by increasing stratospheric sulfur forcing to whatever level is required to achieve stable temperatures. The simulation generally branches from a scenario simulation at some point in the future.",
"drs_name": "G7-1p5K-SAI",

The change should read:
"Stablisation of global-mean temperature at 1.5C by increasing stratospheric sulfur forcing to whatever level is required to achieve stable temperatures. The simulation branches from the ML ScenarioMIP-CMIP7 scenario simulation in 2035 following the experiment description in Visioni et al. (2024) (https://gmd.copernicus.org/articles/17/2583/2024/)"

Ah yes how this all fits is a big complex. Here we are in the universe so need general descriptions (there was no ML experiment in CMIP6 but this description has to sort of work for both CMIP6 and CMIP7). In the CMIP7 CVs we have the specifics, see https://github.com/WCRP-CMIP/CMIP7-CVs/pull/321/files#diff-c8fc3ad05752ae12fc64629a2f2a6b762b6d958d1eb7c37d48d735d1a99934c5

@znicholls thank you! I offered up a suggestion for the description above, as well.
Relevant papers are this: https://gmd.copernicus.org/articles/17/2583/2024/ and this: https://journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/bams/106/10/BAMS-D-25-0191.1.xml

On your questions:

  1. Yes, we can keep at 2085 at a minimum, but it should go all the way to the end of the ScenaioMIP-CMIP7 scenario if possible (without extension)
  2. G7-1p5K-SAI is fine!
