New clippy failures in code base with release of rustc 1.86

Describe the bug
Rust 1.86 is now stable and CI is starting to use it. Each new version of rust brings a new wave of clippy suggestions and there are several files that are now failing clippy.

Rust 1.86 was released today: https://releases.rs/docs/1.86.0/

To Reproduce
Run clippy with rust 1.86

Expected behavior
No clippy errors
