Stuck empty room on Matrix.org after failed invite

Description

I have a stuck empty room showing on my list of rooms which I can neither enter nor leave.

When I try to leave it I get the message:

MatrixError: [403] Event $DHp2akmaa1tUGt6XQlxV0UMi0ieFd1Hcfv10a8kO_ac has duplicate auth_events for ('m.room.member', '@mikedlr:matrix.org'): $_Xeo39RcIHoo45w2ISgl7hom27sAD36-bN9UKTaVVDM and $yH3MPKSaWtjjzBxI05zu3oVsUJfvhZs5v6vpGLRwW2s (https://matrix-client.matrix.org/_matrix/client/v3/rooms/!DfcSYFVRVViSDvIZXd%3Ahackerspace.pl/leave)

Steps to reproduce

• ask for an invite to the warsaw hackerspace #infra room from the admin
• try to join - fails taking a long time
• give up and leave it, possibly try rejecting invite (not sure if this ever actually did anything or was already jammed)
• come back and find an empty room
• try to leave empty room

For those who face the same issue and are admins on their homeserver: I was able to delete the room on my own homeserver in a docker container with the following command

docker exec -ti matrix-homeserver-1 curl -sS -X DELETE "http://localhost:8008/_synapse/admin/v2/rooms/ROOM_ID" -H "Authorization: Bearer MY_ACCESS_TOKEN" -H "Content-Type: application/json"   -d '{"purge":true,"block":true,"force_purge":true}'

MY_ACCESS_TOKEN and ROOM_ID can be seen in Element Web. ROOM_ID needs to be URL encoded, e.g. online
