Can the check on the number of partions on /dev/mmcblk0 be skipped? I do have only one partition on my SD card...

The option check for -R misses a !:-( That's fixed.

The backup fails if there doesn't exist any second partition on the SD card.
The update of /etc/fstab on the external root partition fails if the partition is not partition #2 on the device.
