Can't add 'Heat Energy (E1)' to Gas-tab of Energy Dashboard

The problem

Coming from a hacked together Kamstrup 401 custom integration, I was very happy to be able to switch to your integration when my city heating installation was replaced and I got a Kamstrup 403. So many thanks for building and maintaining this integration!

The latest release (3.1.0) notes state:

Heat Energy (E1) sensor can directly be added to the Energy Dashboard (gas tab)

However the 'Add gas source'-dialog on the 'Gas'-tab does not allow me to select the 'Heat Energy (E1)' sensor.

The readme doesn't specify any details.

Perhaps one of the (many) Energy Dashboard revisions changed some things, because

And graphs for gas sensors are much nicer than entities in the Individual devices section, as they are shown as kWh.

Via #42 doesn't seem to be applicable anymore.

For now I've reverted back to version 3.0.2.

I have no trouble selecting the "Heat Energy (E1)" sensor in the gas section using 3.1.0 - but the GJ is converted to kWh and I would much prefer keeping the native GJ unit, but denominated as m3. Would it be possible to add an option for keeping the "Heat Energy to Gas" sensor? I have also reverted to v. 3.0.2 for now.

@Revorge I see what you mean. Since the dashboard now properly supports it, it is a good time to remove the conversion sensor. I'll add it back in the coming days.

@golles After updating to 3.1.0 I've only had to fix the Flow sensor, as described in the 3.1.0 release notes.

Editing the Gas-tab on the Energy Dashboard I see:

Clicking 'Add gas source' shows the standard screen (Note: GJ is not listed for 'Gas consumption'):

And attempting to add a new sensor only shows my old integration sensor (which is still around for the long term statistics):

All of this is done using 3.0.2, because I saw the same with 3.1.0, switching back and forth between versions is rather cumbersome, plus if I understand correctly the 'Heat Energy (E1)' sensor can already be added to the Energy Dashboard with this older version. But as you can see the 'Heat Energy (E1)' sensor is not listed for me.

Despite this issue being about not able to add the E1 sensor, I see no need to push for keeping this issue open since I'm apparently the only one that can't add it. So the gas sensor being back in version 3.1.1 is sufficient for me.

I'll try to investigate it myself a bit more, any help/direction/hints would be much obliged though.

I'm really curious what you can find! I guess looking into all the state attributes. Especially the device class and state class, as they determine the type of sensor, and this is what the energy dashboard should use.

Can you add the gas conversion sensor that has just been restored?
You are on a recent HA version
You are on a supported Python version
And you are on the latest integration version
Haven't you made any code changes yourself to either HA or the integration?
You have the E1 sensor enabled, and it has a non-unknown/unavailable state

The restored gas conversion sensor (sensor.kamstrup_403_heat_energy_to_gas) works as intended, my Energy Dashboard keeps reporting it without having to make any changes to the configuration.

I've re-installed the integration via HACS and don't make any manual changes. Used to do this, but was waaaaayyy to cumbersome so switched to HACS.

Could it perhaps be that because the gas conversion sensor is added, the Energy Dashboard doesn't allow for the E1 sensor to be added?
And/or I can't add the E1 sensor because I still have the old integration sensor added to Gas Consumption configuration (for history data)?
