Re-Engineering Policy Creation Flow #1687

Description

@prernaadev01

Problem description

Existing Policy design and creation process in Guardian presents a challenge for practical use:

  • Guardian provides no guidance for policy authors who are required to proceed by 'trial and error' which is time consuming
  • Majority of policies have the same structure, they are 'like' one of the built-in policies with only minor differences (user names and exact numbers, fields on the form etc). At present users have to resort to copy-paste or export-import actions to quickly create similar policies for different users/use-cases.

Requirements

Add a 'wizard' capability to policy creation workflow to simplify the tooling for non-programmer users. User should have an option to follow a pre-defined form-based workflow[s], answering business-level questions like 'do you need project onboarding flow' and 'how many users should policy have' which guide the user in creation of a policy similar in structure to IREC of VERRA.

Definition of done

  • New functionality implemented to enhance policy configurator capabilities
  • Policy creation workflow simplified with at least 2 wizards, for creation of the iREC and VERRA -like policies correspondingly
  • New functionality is documented
  • Backward compatibility with existing policies is maintained

Acceptance criteria

  • Users can create functioning policies using wizards
  • These policies could them be added to or otherwise edited to customise them better for the particular use-cases
