Tables overflow in paginated display in firefox

In firefox browser with paged display, tables that are too large vertically overflow instead of being split and the remainder appearing in the next column, and the overflow is hidden.

The paginated display is generated by setting column-width on the body of the document in the iframe. But column-width does not split tables so tables that are too large to fit in a single column overflow and the overflow is hidden.

Mozilla describes horizontal overflow but not vertical overflow.

It seems the overflow isn't hidden in the multi-column body itself, but rather in the containing iframe and the div containing it, and also by some effect of the iframe height. Even if iframe overflow is not hidden, it is limited by the height of the iframe - anything that overflows the height is hidden.

This is a Firefox bug: Tables do not break (fragment) in CSS Multi-column Layout reported in 2013 with almost no attention to it, so unlikely to be fixed.

The bug was reported again late in 2022: Fragmentation not working for non-printed table (table not breaking inside multicol) but this was promptly closed as a duplicate of 888257, with the comment that this never works in Firefox and there is no workaround, though a suggestion to try a 'modern' layout such as 'flex'.

In Chromium, the table is split across columns.
