Our nonprofit / NGO runs a very small instance at games(.)ngo. We have benefited from using gup(.)pe over the years to help us engage with other instances more effectively.
It is frustrating that somebody managed to grab the domain and apparently is using it for self-serving purposes.
Guppe(.)org
Today, we registered guppe(.)org and will gladly donate the domain. Our hope is to keep the service going, with the added hope that some of the goodwill associated with the original domain would be retained.
Options
- (Preferred) Donate the domain to whichever group has been maintaining gup(.)pe if they will continue doing so.
- (Alternatively) Set up the service ourselves.
If we were to set up the service ourselves, we would need tech help. Although I set up our Mastodon instance in 2017, I am not a sysadmin and would need assistance to set everything up properly. (I have broken the instance three times; not boasting, just acknowledging my limitations.)
My preference is to hand the domain off to folks who have been working on this service. If that is not an option we will try to get this running again but, I absolutely would need folks who are willing to assist with the technical details.
Within the month we plan to move our instance from its current US server to the EU (likely Hetzner) and would use the EU ISP if we wound up trying to set this up.

Note: I used Cloudflare as a registrar because we use Cloudflare for several of our websites and it was easier / quicker / cheaper to use them.
