I plan to use a free subdomain from is-a.dev to host several applications, like Immich, Plex Media Server, HomeAssistant, Prometheus, Grafana, and more. To do this, I need to use Cloudflare Tunnels, and for that, I need to set an NS record to let Cloudflare manage the DNS for my subdomain.
Why is this important to me?
Cloudflare requires DNS management to be fully delegated to them via NS records in order to connect Cloudflare Tunnels to public URLs. This ensures that the tunnels can correctly map to the subdomain and work as expected.
Cloudflare provides the best security options for a free tier. Some of the apps I’m hosting will be private (like HomeAssistant for my smart home or Immich for storing personal photos), so I need to make sure they are secure. Cloudflare helps by:
