This application is built with a modern, robust tech stack:

Follow these steps to set up and run the Job Profile Lab locally.
- Node.js (v18 or higher)
- npm or yarn
- A Google Cloud Project with the Gemini API enabled and a valid API Key.
The application requires a Gemini API key. For production deployments (e.g., on Vercel), this key must be configured as an environment variable.
- Create a
.envfile in the root directory of the project. - Add your Gemini API key:
Replace
API_KEY=YOUR_GEMINI_API_KEYYOUR_GEMINI_API_KEYwith your actual Gemini API key.
When deploying to Vercel, you will need to set the API_KEY environment variable directly in your Vercel project settings.
- Go to your Vercel project dashboard.
- Navigate to "Settings" -> "Environment Variables".
- Add a new environment variable:
- Name:
API_KEY - Value: Your Gemini API Key
- Scope: Production, Preview, Development (recommended for full functionality)

Important Note on API Keys:
For local development, the API_KEY will be read from your .env file. When deployed live, Vercel securely injects the API_KEY from your project's environment variables. The application code is written to expect process.env.API_KEY, making it compatible with both setups without modification.

Run the development server:

- Paste Your Resume: On the landing page, paste the plain text content of your resume into the provided textarea.
- Optimize Profile: Click the "Optimize Profile" button. The AI will process your text.
- Review & Stage: Once optimized, the Job Site Profile Stager interface will appear.
- The "Quick Guide Tip" at the top of the right column provides contextual advice for the entire optimized profile.
- Navigate through the Job Site Profile Sections on the left (Header, About, Experience, Skills).
- For each section, review the AI-generated content on the right.
- Use the character counters to ensure compliance with platform limits.
- Click the "COPY TO CLIPBOARD" button next to any individual field to copy its content.
- Use the "COPY ALL OPTIMIZATIONS" button to copy all generated content at once, ready to be pasted into your preferred word processor or document editor for further customization.
- Access Tutorial: Click the "Help" button in the perpetual header to open a dedicated page with detailed instructions and tips about the app.
- Download Plan: Click the "Download Plan" button in the header to get a structured Markdown (.md) file of your optimized profile, including all guide tips. This file is excellent for offline reference and easy copy-pasting into text or word editors (you can open .md files in any text editor, and copy-paste content into word processors where you can apply rich formatting).
- Update Your Profile: Go to your job site profile edit page (e.g., LinkedIn) and paste the copied content (either section-by-section or all at once) into the respective fields.
- Full PDF Generation: Implement
react-pdffor a highly formatted, visually appealing PDF export of the optimized profile. - Multi-Platform Support: Expand
