Url rewrites

I was very happy to see a replacement for Scotchbox. I use to work with Scotchbox for WordPress sites. I have a WordPress site created using your Vagrant Lamp Stack, but if I turn on WordPress permalinks all pages and posts get broken. If I remove the rewrite rule as seen below in my htaccess file, the posts and page will will load just fine. Any idea as to why URLs with rewrite rules don't work? Thank you.
