Error reading preferences Sprint 37

I am getting this error when I start brackets:
Your preferences file is not valid JSON. The foll will be opened so that you can correct the format. You will need to restart Brackets for the changes to take effect.

Unfortunately I found no documentation how to set preferences.

Remember that the file must be a valid JSON file, so no trailing comas, and properties and values wrapped in ". You could download a JSON lint extension to check for errors in the format.

I wonder if there's any way we could give a more specific error message... I don't think the JSON.parse() exception gives us enough info, but maybe we could run JSLint over the file or something...?

Thanks! I think it would be good if there would be a json file with all default values! Then there wouldn't be an error and it's easier to change sth.

Having a default JSON lint extension might be good. You would easily see any JSON errors, and in the message we can ask the user to enable the linter and fix any issue.

For me the problem was that the json file is empty in Sprint 37 so the error occurs.

In that case, we should try to check if the file is empty before parsing it, and if it is don't even use it?
