Open Source Hardware Definition

The Open Source Hardware definition is a statement of principles and ideals of Open Source Hardware created by the community in reaction to the increasing number of hardware projects being distributed openly under undefined terms but often using the Creative Commons license.

As of version 1.0 the defining points are:

  1. Documentation
  2. Scope
  3. Necessary Software
  4. Derived Works
  5. Free Redistribution
  6. Attribution
  7. No Discrimination Against Persons or Groups
  8. No Discrimination Against Fields of Endeavour
  9. Distribution of License
  10. License Must Not Be Specific to a Product
  11. License Must Not Restrict Other Hardware or Software
  12. License Must Be Technology-Neutral
