Accessories Physics Setup

日本語版

This tutorial explains how to set up physics for objects other than hair and skirts.

Prerequisites

Earrings

Setup for small accessories.

Reference Parameters

Parameter Reference Description
Damping 0.1-0.2 Light sway
Stiffness 0.05-0.1 Soft movement
World Damping Location 0.5-0.7 Moderate following
Dummy Bone Length 3-5 Improve end bone control
Gravity (0, 0, -0.8) Gravity influence

Tips

  • Set Dummy Bone Length for short bone chains
  • Use Gravity for natural draping
  • Use Spherical Limits to prevent head penetration

Ribbons & Capes

Setup for cloth-like accessories.

Reference Parameters

Parameter Reference Description
Damping 0.15-0.25 Moderate damping
Stiffness 0.1-0.15 Shape retention
World Damping Location 0.6-0.8 Stable movement
World Damping Rotation 0.6-0.8 Rotation stability
Limit Angle 45-90 Allow large movement

For Capes

Long capes need attention to:

  1. Use Bone Constraint to prevent spreading
  2. Use Planar Limits for back penetration
  3. Use Curve Data to soften the hem

Tails

Setup for animal character tails.

Reference Parameters

Parameter Reference Description
Damping 0.2-0.3 Moderate settling
Stiffness 0.15-0.25 Shape retention
World Damping Location 0.7-0.9 Focus on stability
Limit Angle 30-60 Natural range of motion
Gravity (0, 0, -0.3) Light gravity

Tips

  • Use Curve Data for stiff base and soft tip
  • Use Spherical Limits or Capsule Limits to prevent body penetration
  • Combine with animation for better expression

Weapons (Swords, Staffs, etc.)

Setup for near-rigid items.

Reference Parameters

Parameter Reference Description
Damping 0.3-0.5 Quick settling
Stiffness 0.3-0.5 Strong shape retention
World Damping Location 0.8-1.0 High stability
Limit Angle 10-30 Small sway

Sword Sway

To express residual sway after swinging:

  1. Higher Stiffness to ensure rigidity
  2. Moderate Damping to allow sway
  3. Limit Angle to restrict sway range

Staffs, Flags, etc.

For items with soft parts (decorations, flag cloth):

  1. Set only the soft part as Root Bone
  2. Use cloth-like parameter settings

Setting Up Multiple Accessories

When a character has multiple physics objects:

Performance Considerations

  • Be mindful of processing load with many nodes
  • Disable Update Physics Settings In Game
  • Consider disabling invisible parts

Using External Forces

Wind Effects

Add wind influence to accessories:

  1. Enable Enable Wind
  2. Place WindDirectionalSource in level
  3. Adjust influence with Wind Scale

Custom External Forces

Use External Forces for special movement:

  • Basic: Force in constant direction
  • Gravity: Character-dependent gravity
  • Curve: Time-varying force

Troubleshooting

Sway is too small

  • Lower Stiffness
  • Lower Damping
  • Adjust Gravity

Sway is too large

  • Increase Stiffness
  • Decrease Limit Angle
  • Increase World Damping

Penetrates body

  • Add Spherical Limits or Capsule Limits
  • Adjust collision position and size

Unnatural end bones

  • Set Dummy Bone Length
  • Adjust end parameters with Curve Data
